Adult Creator Economy 2024: Key Stats & Trends

The numbers behind the boom. Fan spending, creator payouts, platform growth and the trends shaping the adult creator economy, with every source linked.

Updated October 18, 2026 ✦ Research

The adult creator economy is no longer a niche corner of the internet. It’s a multi-billion-dollar industry that has reshaped how millions of people earn a living online. In this report we pull together the most reliable public data available, with every figure linked to its original source, so you can understand the market you’re building your business in.

About this data: OnlyFans is the only major adult creator platform that publishes detailed annual financial statements (through its parent company, Fenix International Ltd). Its fiscal year 2024 ran to 30 November 2024. Figures for other platforms are based on their published policies. Where numbers are estimates or projections, we say so.

1. Fan spending keeps climbing

In its 2024 financial year, OnlyFans processed $7.22 billion in gross payments from fans, a rise of around 9% on the previous year (Variety). That includes subscriptions, tips, pay-per-view messages and paid posts.

Growth has slowed compared with the explosive pandemic years, which is exactly what you’d expect as a platform matures. But it’s still growing, and fans are still spending billions of dollars a year directly with creators.

OnlyFans metric (FY2024) Value Year-on-year change
Gross fan payments $7.22 billion +9%
Paid to creators $5.80 billion Up
Company net revenue $1.41 billion Up
Pre-tax profit $684 million Up
Creator accounts 4.63 million +13%
Fan accounts 377.5 million +24%

2. Creators keep the lion’s share

Of that $7.22 billion, around $5.8 billion went to creators. That reflects the industry-standard 80/20 split: creators keep 80% of what fans pay and the platform keeps 20% (OnlyFans Help).

The same 80/20 model has become the norm across the major competitors:

3. Competition among creators is rising

Creator accounts on OnlyFans grew 13% to 4.63 million in FY2024, while fan accounts grew 24% to 377.5 million (Variety). Fans are growing faster than creators, which is encouraging. Even so, more than 4.6 million creator accounts means standing out takes real strategy.

A simple back-of-the-envelope calculation shows why. $5.8 billion shared across 4.63 million accounts averages roughly $1,250 per creator account per year. That average hides a huge range: many accounts are inactive or earn very little, while top creators earn many times more. Earnings follow a “long tail” pattern common across the whole creator economy.

What this means for you: the platform isn’t going to hand you fans. The creators who earn well treat it as a business, with a clear niche, consistent posting, daily promotion and strong fan relationships.

4. The wider creator economy is booming

Adult platforms sit within a much larger creator economy. Goldman Sachs Research estimates the global creator economy could approach $480 billion by 2027, up from around $250 billion in 2023. It counts around 50 million creators worldwide, of whom only about 4% earn more than $100,000 a year (Goldman Sachs).

Multi-platform creators are the new normal

More creators are spreading their income across several platforms, using OnlyFans for its huge audience and adding Fansly, Fanvue or LoyalFans for discovery features, referral programmes or payout schedules. Diversification protects you if one platform changes its rules.

Referral programmes are getting more generous

Platforms are competing for creators. Fanvue offers a 5% creator referral for 12 months (Fanvue Help), while LoyalFans advertises a 5% lifetime referral (Luvi).

Faster, more flexible payouts

Payout speed is a growing selling point. LoyalFans pays twice monthly with a $50 minimum (TopAgencies), Fanvue has a 7-day pending period and a $20 minimum withdrawal (Fanvue Legal), and Fansly’s minimums start at $20 depending on method (Fansly Help).

Professionalisation and management

As competition rises, more creators are working with virtual assistants, chatters and full-service management agencies. The most common model is a revenue share, where the agency earns a percentage of the creator’s income. Prefer to have experts handle your growth? See how this works on our agency page.

Social media is the growth engine

Because most subscription platforms have limited built-in discovery, social media remains the primary source of new fans. Reddit, Twitter/X and short-form video (TikTok, Instagram Reels) dominate. Our social media playbooks break down each platform.

What it all means for creators

  1. The market is big and still growing. Billions of dollars flow from fans to creators every year.
  2. The split is standard. At 80/20 almost everywhere, choose platforms on audience and features rather than fees.
  3. Competition is real. Strategy, consistency and promotion separate top earners from the rest.
  4. Diversification is smart. Multiple platforms and income streams reduce risk.
  5. You don’t have to do it alone. Communities, VAs and agencies can help you scale.
